Arviat Information :
Arviat is a small village located on the western shore of the Hudson Bay in the Kivalliq area in the
state of Nunavut. The name of the hamlet comes from the word arviq which means 'Bowhead
Whale'. The hamlet has the 3rd largest population in the state, with 2060 inhabitants. Fishing and
hunting are the main livelihoods of the region. The region has flat landscapes and low lying shrubs
with sand and gravel ridges. The climate is extremely cold with sudden blizzards. Winters are dry
but the summers are nice. In summers the scenery changes with flowers and shrubs of various
colours appearing along the road.
