Before you get all too excited about packing everything in your home, pick up those which you will still use and need until the day that you leave your current house. This includes a few clothes, basic kitchen utensils, pet supplies and other things that you use on a day to day basis. These are the ones which you would pack on the last day.
Start packing things in an organized way. You can do it per room so you can avoid the confusion once you start unpacking them in your new Switzerland home. Aside from that, packing things according to how it is organized in your current house will avoid creating a big mess which would make the process much more difficult to handle. The last thing you want when shipping your goods to Canada or any other international destination, is to have everything all over the place.
For fragile items, make sure to wrap them with paper or bubble wrap. This will keep glassware, ceramics and other fragile items from rubbing and bumping to each other which would lead to breakage. Secure the wrap with tape so it would remain in place. Moving fragile items to Switzerland, using the right packing materials will ensure your goods arent damaged in transit.
Do not forget to put labels on the box too. If the box contains items which need extra care, put ‘fragile’ or ‘handle with care’ on all sides of the box. Another tip when packing things is to create a list of all the items that each box contains. You can tape this on the box so you will know exactly where to find what you need. If the boxes will be transported via shipping company, put your list inside the box so it would not be lost or torn.
For books, the best way to pack them is to use small boxes. Books can be very heavy when loaded in a single, big box and lifting it would be too difficult. So, place them in separate boxes to distribute the weight.
For carpets and rugs, never fold them! This will create permanent creases which will ruin it. The best way to pack these is to roll them and tie the middle and ends with a secure rope. This will prevent damage and will enable you to save a lot of space too.
Packing all the contents of your home means shipping a lot of items. If you intend to bring some of the furnitures, maybe a box would not do the trick. You can also opt for containers which can fit all the items that you would like to bring with you in Switzerland. Just make sure to arrange all shipping details with a reliable company.
